Your minimum monthly balances and service fees depend on the type of account you open. 

How to Open a Bank Account

Although it’s easy to open a bank account online or over the phone but being an international student, we recommend you to open your account in person. It will be easier to deal with any complications in person. Moreover, it’ll help you establish a face to face relationship with a banker. Here are some of the documents that you’ll be needing for opening a bank account in the US: 
  • Your full name, contact number, home address, your campus name, campus telephone number, and your college address (Letterhead showing the local address – i.e. utility bills or apartment contract) 
  • Unexpired passport
  • DS-2019, I-20, or I-797 approval notice
  • I-94 card
  • Enrollment verification letter from your school
  • any secondary form of identification such as birth certificate, student ID card, state driver’s license etc. 
  • Funds to open an account
